What sport to you compete in? I am an NPC Figure
Competitor
Why did you become interested in your sport?
I was “discovered” by a national level competitor
while I was still in high school. He put me on a diet and trained
me intensely so that I could prepare for a show. I was completely
ready to do it and I was amazed by the transformation my body
was making!!
Are there any other physical activities you enjoy to
stay fit?
I have been a dancer since I was two years old (ballet, jazz,
hip-hop, lyrical, modern and tap). That’s where my legs
come from! I taught dance classes for many years as a teen.
I also was a gymnast from age 6 until 15, and I progressed all
the way to Level 8 status (Level 10 is the Olympics). Throughout
middle and high schools I was a cheerleader, and I served as
captain of the cheerleading squad in high school and became
NCAA (college) qualified in cheering as a senior.
Something someone wouldn't know about you:
I have a very outgoing (and sometimes silly) personality, I’m
sweet and caring especially when it comes to friends and family
(I always want to be the one helping out), and I’m very
driven to achieve my goals. I love country music and hip hop
– a unique combination! I am also an animal lover, of
all types.
How long have you been training:
I have been training for seven years and competing for five
years.
How was your first show like?
I entered my first contest in the open class, and did well even
up against 25-35 year olds when I was a 17 year old teenager.
From that moment on I was addicted to being on stage and this
has been a dream for me.
What do you like and dislike about competing?
I love everything about competing! In 2006 my season started
with a third place finish at the Junior USA’s in Charleston
in April and ended with a fourth place finish at the North American
Championships in Cleveland in September. Competing frequently
fits well with my personality, I am very competitive and I love
staying in shape year round!! My first two shows in 2007 will
be the Arnold Amateur Figure Championships in March and the
Junior USA Championships in April.
What are your goals in the sport?
I would like to earn my IFBB figure pro card in 2007 and eventually
step onto the stage at the Figure Olympia. I also plan to compete
in fitness at some point, given my gymnastics and cheerleading
background, and I am developing and working on my routine with
IFBB pro Beth Horn.
What do you see yourself doing in 10 years?
Figure/fitness is very much related to my career as a whole,
so I plan to be involved as much as possible in numerous ways.
In the short term, with the help of my sponsors, I plan to be
a part-owner and manager of my own supplement store. In the
longer term I will open my own gym with a dance studio inside.
I am headlining my first NPC fitness show (national qualifier)
in Cleveland in June 2007, along with Planet Physique, and I
eventually intend to have my own NPC headline show.
